The first Skills Bootcamp from the Girls in Tech movement took place in Helsinki this weekend. Initially, the Girls in Tech movement has originated in the United States. However, further on, it was successfully adopted and launched in 53 chapters across the world. Now, finally, it reached the Nordics, starting from our wonderful Helsinki.
PURPOSE & GOALS
Generally speaking, the main goal of the Girls in Tech movement is to encourage women to be ambitious and brave in their careers. Women can and should conquer the fields of technology, through founding and joining technological enterprises.
First of all, Girls in Tech united together several institutions, companies, and organizations. Further on, a successfully organized Skills Bootcamp offered to participants practical workshops, inspirational talks and valuable networking. More importantly, the whole atmosphere of the event was positive, encouraging and productive. For instance, I managed to noticeably proceed with my front-end coding skills during the web development workshop. The workshop has been supervised by professional developers. It was based on an easy to follow step-by-step tutorial prepared by one of the coaches, Margarita Obraztsova.
The event took place in one of the partners’ premises – spacious and cheerful office of Tuxera at Ruoholahti, Helsinki. Fortunatelly, the space suited its purpose very well. Naturally, as an Interior designer I know, how strongly an environment affects the work process.
Besides the very successful initiative, Skills Bootcamp, Girls in Tech are preparing future events that are equally worth attending. For instance, there will be interactive visiting sessions to some large technological companies, like Zalando and Microsoft. Moreover, as one of the organizers, Elena Zozulya, has revealed to me Girls in Tech are soon launching a new Mentorship program!
Overall, regarding all the above-stated information, I recommend subscribing to the newsletter on the Girls in Tech web page. Surely, you do not want to miss the next event – I am definitely grateful I didn’t miss the Skill Bootcamp this weekend!
